Migraine Specialty Program
If you suffer from intense headaches, migraines, post-concussive syndrome, or similar head pain, our practice is built specifically for you.
Ready for lasting relief?
Historically, medical practice has left migraine, headache, and post-concussive patients underserved. This is because the majority of prescribed treatments simply target the symptoms of your pain, not the source. Head pain, like any other bodily pain, is not the primary root of your suffering: it is a warning sign that something deeper is occurring that must be addressed… a root cause. Tampa Bay Functional Neurology specializes in finding root causes and producing lasting solutions to eliminate head pain.
Our Process
-
1. Comprehensive Evaluation
Each of our neurologic patients begins with a thorough, 2-hour examination with the doctor. This will include an at-length health history, physical exam, neurologic exam, oculo-visual assessment, vestibular and balance assessment. This first visit is purely diagnostic. The doctor will then formulate an individualized treatment plan to begin on follow-up.
-
2. Acute Care
The first phase of care focuses on “firefighting” — mitigating pain and cutting down on adverse symptoms. Our patients typically begin with an elimination-and-modification protocol in which the doctor works with them to root out deep-seated causes of pain and dysfunction. Treatments during this stage are largely therapeutic.
-
3. Functional Re-build
A transitional phase of treatment that prioritizes strengthening and endurance-building. Previously-eliminated triggers are slowly added back in to return to your normal daily rhythms in a stronger and smarter way.
Our office touts 3 advantages that position us to offer you superior care:
1. Unhurried, 1-on-1 appointment scheduling.
You will never feel rushed out of our office. Our priority with respect to practice management is giving our patients the time they deserve. Do not confuse us for another doctor’s visit where you are in and out before getting word in. At TBFN, we understand that optimal patient outcomes require quality time and innovative care.
2. A diverse and innovative curriculum of treatment therapies.
Each therapy offered at TBFN is hand-selected for its potential in reducing head pain. We offer a rich blend of both time-tested and cutting-edge therapies and we prescribe a unique treatment track to each patient, based on the individuality of their condition. Our treatment options include:
Ocular Therapy (active rehabilitation of the eyes)
Vestibular and Proprioceptive Therapy (active rehabilitation of the inner ear and balance systems)
Transcranial Photo-biomodulation (Cold Laser applied to the brain)
Neurocognitive Remediation (sharpening the brain’s various injured regions through challenging tasks)
Biofeedback
Acupuncture and Needling (an evidence-based approach to Eastern medicine)
Electrical stimulation
Vibration Plate therapy
Spine and joint manipulation
Manual therapy
Physical therapy
Dietary, occupational, and lifestyle modification coaching
3. Rigorous education in clinical anatomy and neurology.
While “neuro” and “neuroscience” have recently become buzzwords in clinical settings, relatively few providers are educated on this material at a doctoral or professional level. Due to the complexity of the human nervous system, a robust understanding of its circuitry is essential for optimal treatment outcomes. Dr. Radford has completed a 3-year (300 clinical hour) post doctoral program in clinical neurology through the Carrick Institute for Clinical Neuroscience, with special emphasis on clinical neuroanatomy and rehabilitation of functional disorders. It is this firm understanding that enables our office to produce the outcomes our patients deserve.
